Indoors
Light
This plant likes bright light but not direct sunlight. A North-facing window is ideal.
Water
Keep compost moist at all times. For best watering results, immerse the plant’s container in water and let the water soak up from the bottom of the plant.
Temperature
Cyclamen like cool temperatures (50–60º during the day) and no direct sunlight. Cooler temperatures lengthen bloom time.
Humidity
Occasionally mist the air around the plant or place it on a tray filled with pebbles and water.
Fertilizer
There is no need to fertilize during the (Winter) flowering period. When blooms have finished, allow plant to rest 4-6 weeks, then begin feeding to bring plant into bloom again.
Problems
The most common causes of yellowing foliage are hot and/or dry air, under-watering, or direct sunlight. With the above care, the Cyclamen will bloom indoors for several months.
outdoors
Plant in rich, very well draining soil, 6 to 8 inches apart and out of direct sunlight. The upper half of the tuber should be above the soil level and the soil should be kept moist.
In the Pacific Northwest these plants need protection from wind and direct rain during the Winter months and they often do not survive temperatures below 34º. Gardeners who wish to grow this plant outdoors should top-dress each year with a light application of potting soil with a complete fertilizer, being careful not to cover the top of the tuber. Do not cultivate around the roots. In Southern zones, Cyclamen will bloom from late Fall to early Spring.
